In early 2015, I had a major wake-up call when I was diagnosed with a serious illness. While I had the
recommended medical treatment, I was uneasy with the singular focus of the medical model and
began to look at and invest in complementary therapies that were holistic in nature and looked at
the person as a whole – encompassing mind, body and spirit. These included counselling, reiki, yoga,
kinesiology, amatsu, shamanic healing, reflexology, crystal healing, energy medicine, homeopathy,
acupuncture, EFT, energetic massage and colour therapy. All these modalities helped me
enormously, but the one that really opened the door to all the others was counselling.
Having spent 20 years working as a primary teacher, I made the decision to go back to college and
study counselling. At the same time, I returned to reiki and finished my training to become a reiki
master. As my studies progressed I discovered how to free myself from limiting thought patterns
and beliefs that had negatively affected my health and well-being. I learned how to manage difficult
thoughts and emotions and developed a range of strategies that worked for me.
Somewhere along the way, I realised that I was less critical and more compassionate towards myself
and others. Most of all I began to understand, accept and love myself, the good and the bad. While
life can be challenging, I now have an inner sense of peace and ease that sustains me in the midst of
the ups and downs of life.
If you choose to work with me, it is my hope that I can support you in discovering and developing
your own inner strengths and resources to cope with whatever is going on for you in your life. There
are times in all our lives when we need a helping hand and a listening ear.
